Quartz
|
Profile
Quartz
is mineral consisting of silicon dioxide. Approximately
12% of the earth crust is composed of quartz, making it
the second most common mineral after feldspar. Quartz
has a hardness of 7 and a specific gravity of 2.65. It
is brittle, and has conchoidal fracture and a vitreous
luster. Captain may be white or colorless and
transparent. Various metallic impurities can cause
quartz to have different colors. It has piezoelectric
and thermoelectric properties.

Quartz Powder (Silica Powder)
Profile
Quartz
powder is chiefly used for glass products, machinery
(casting), metallurgy, ceramic glazes, fire-resistant
materials, cement, and chemicals. Quartz is used by the
glass industry in the manufacture of plate glass, fiber
reinforced glass, embossed glass, hollow glass, glass
foam, glass bricks, various types of packaging bottles
and jars, and the following types of glassware: Beer
bottles, drinking glasses, thermos bottles, and in glass
ornaments. Quartz can also be used to manufacture
optical glass, glass instruments, glass fiber,
conducting glass, and special radiation-shielding glass.
The casting industry uses quartz powder as mold sand.
The metals industry uses quartz in smelting additives,
fluxes, and various ferrosilicon alloys. The fire
resistant materials industry uses quartz to make
high-temperature kiln bricks, ordinary bricks, and other
fire-resistant materials. The cement industry uses
quartz sand as an additive in cement, and also uses it
in aerated concrete and general products. The chemical
industry uses quartz to manufacture water glass, silica
gel, drying agents, and petroleum refining catalysts.
Quartz powder is used in external wall paints and road
dividing line paints. Use of quartz can meet the needs
of glass-and ceramic-making, fire-resistant materials,
chemical production, environmental protection, and
grinding. Quartz powder is used in paper, paints,
plastic, and rubber as an additive or a filler.
